Thirteen year old Vaka Varalakshmi is studying in Grade 7, in a village school about 30 km (18 miles) from Kakinada.
Her father is a mason at Yandamuru village and works on a daily-wage basis. Construction work being seasonal in nature, he barely finds enough work off-season, to support the basic needs of his family and also pay for the children’s education. On some days, he finds no work at all making it very difficult for the family to manage with their meager savings.
Lately, Varalakshmi had been complaining to her teacher that she was finding it difficult to read the black board clearly. At a routine eye camp in the school, it was noticed that her vision was poor, and she needed corrective glasses. She can now see much better, and doesn§t have trouble reading things written on the blackboard.
It’s thanks to your generous donation, Barbara that Varalakshmi could receive a pair of glasses as her father would otherwise have not been able to afford one. She is extremely happy after receiving her new glasses.
Thank you Barbara for this thoughtful gift of a pair of glasses!
