Sixty-seven year old, Surya works as an Agricultural laborer, in the village of Biccavolu, in coastal Andhra Pradesh. His wife passed away, two years ago due to some unidentified illness and ever since he has been living with his son’s family.
He also has three other daughters who are married and settled. He earns up to $4 per day, although not much, Surya was happy that he was not completely dependent on his son.
For the last two months, Surya noticed that his vision was diminishing and he could not even differentiate between people. This started affecting his work and he knew that if he stopped working, his son would have to pay for his expenses, as well.
At the same time, Sankurathri Foundation was organizing a free eye-camp, in his village and he made the most of it and went for a complete eye check-up. It was here that he was diagnosed with a problem of refractive error and was advised to buy glasses for better vision. He confessed that he did not have much money left to buy a pair of glasses.
Your generous donation, Elizabeth, enabled Sankurathri Foundation to provide him a pair of glasses with which he can now see clearly.
Your support, Elizabeth, comes as a big relief to Surya, who can be independent once again!
