Sixty-five year old, Appa Rao, lives alone in the village of Tanumalla, in coastal Andhra Pradesh. In spite of having four sons, he lives alone with no one to care for him. All his children abandoned him because of his partial blindness.
He works as an agricultural laborer, to meet his most basic needs, earning up to $4 a day, only on the days that he finds work and is struggling to make ends meet.
He had developed a cataract problem a few years ago and had got one eye operated and now it was the second eye that was giving him trouble. But this time, he knew he was in no position to pay for a surgery if the need arises and his sons would turn their backs on him. He was scared to even go and get his eyes examined as he knew it would be expensive for him.
At the same time, Sankuarthri Foundation was organizing a free eye-camp in his village and he decided to make the most of this opportunity and went in to get his eyes examined. After a complete eye-examination, he was informed about his cataract with needed to be operated soon, for his vision to be restored. He confessed to the Doctors at Sankurathri, that he did not have any savings and could not rely on any of his children to pay for him, either.
Your generous donation, Elizabeth, enabled Sankurathri Foundation to bear the cost of Appa Rao’s cataract surgery and also cover the cost of his transportation and two post-surgery visits to the Doctor.
Thanks to your support, he can now see clearly and is very happy that he didn’t have to turn to his children for help. Your timely help not only bailed him out financially but also helped restore his dignity and self-confidence.
Thank you, Elizabeth for helping Appa Rao, restore his vision and enjoy the remaining years of his life!
