Mangayamma can see again with your help

Kadollu Mangayamma, 60
Dear Kevin,

Cataract blindness is very common among poor people living in rural areas. There are no ophthalmologists in the rural areas and because of this reason coupled with poverty several thousands of poor people are remaining blind because of unoperated cataracts. To help such people to become active people in the society we have designed community outreach program where we take the eye care to the door steps of the needy and poor in rural and remote areas.

Under this program our medical team visits a place and conducts free eye examinations to all the people attend those screening camps. All minor ailments are provided with treatment there at the camp site. If anyone requires cataract surgery we advise them and if they are willing we perform all the preoperative testing to verify their suitability for cataract surgery. If they are suitable we advise them to opt for cataract surgery and if the patient is willing we provide the transportation to them the same day to come to base hospital for surgery. At the base hospital we provide all the preoperative testing, food, accommodation, medicines during surgery, Intraocular lens, post operative medications and transportation back to their village free of cost to the patient. In addition, we also provide transportation to the two postoperative visits to all the patients.

Mrs.Kadollu Mangayamma, 60years is wife of Satyam living in village Vulapalli of East Godavari District. The couple have four children three daughters and one son. Usually elderly parents live with sons only but in this case they are living with their daughter because the only son doesn’t care for them. Satyam is a farm laborer  earning about 3$ a day, but he doesn’t have work everyday. As a result he doesn’t have any savings and depends on his daughter’s family. Since last six months Mangayamma has trouble seeing things at home and around. As a result she couldn’t do any work at home. When we conducted an eye camp in their village some of her neighbours alerted her about the eye camp. At eye camp she diagnosed as having Cataracts and because of her poverty we have performed Cataract surgery free of cost to her.

This was all possible only because of your donation. Thank you Kevin for helping Mangayamma to see again.
