Chinnari is very happy with her new uniforms

Six year old Chinnari is the second child of a village farm Laborer, Musaiah, living in the village of Kothuru, located on the outskirts of coastal Andhra Pradesh. She is studying in Grade 1 in Sarada Vidyalayam, the free school run by Sankurathri Foundation. Musaiah earns around $2 per day, whenever he finds work. Hence, he struggles to support his wife and two daughters with his earnings.

Under such circumstances education is never a priority for the families and they prefer to send the child to work so that she can earn some money to supplement family income. But Chinnari’s parents understand the value of education and have therefore enrolled her into the school.
