Nagaratnam’s smile is back!

Seventy five year old Sirigidi Nagaratnam is a widow who has been living with her eldest son, ever since her husband’s demise 5 years ago. They live in the village of Samalkot. Nagaratnam helps with the household chores. Her son works as a clerk in a small shop where he earns $ 50 per month. With that income, he supports his wife, two children and has taken on the care of his aged mother as well.

Nagaratnam’s deteriorating eye sight worried her as she could not work properly. At the same time, she did not want to increase the financial burden on her son. During an eye camp, it was diagnosed that she needed corrective glasses to see properly. Being poor, she could not afford them.
