Bhavyasri is assured of good nutrition for an entire year

Siddamtapu Bhavyasri is a seven year old girl studying grade two at Sarada Vidyalayam, the school managed by Sankurathri Foundation. She is the older daughter of Apparao, who works as a janitor in the village of Thammavaram. On days when he can find work, Apparao earns about $3 per day, which is barely sufficient to meet the needs of his family.

In the normal course, a girl like Bhavyasri would have been put to work, so the money she earned could supplement the family income. However, because of the incentive of a wholesome mid-day meal, her parents send her to school.
