Jaya Durga can grow into a happy child because of nutritious food.

Seelamanthula Jaya Durga
Dear Leslie,

Seelamanthula Jaya Durga is eight years old and studies in grade 3 at Sarada Vidyalayam, the free school run by Sankurathri Foundation in Andhra Pradesh. She is the elder daughter of Sathibabu, who is a Ice Cream vendor in the village Thammavaram which is located in the outskirts of Kakinada,Andhra Pradesh,India. Sathibabu earns about a profit of $3 per day, when he can sell the Ice Cream only. Because of his poor economic background his children need support for proper education and development. Sathibabu has two other elder boys to take care at home.

Under such circumstances education is never a priority for them and if they send the child to work she can make some money to supplement the family income. In this manner many boys and girls in the rural areas are becoming child laborers and supporting their families.

Most of the rural children are undernourished and underweight. As they don’t eat nutritious meals the school provides lunch and milk for these children. With these supplement these children look healthy and happy. Despite her background at home Jaya Durga is a happy Child and she participants in all the activities at school.

Your donation, Leslie, will enable Sankurathri Foundation to provide food to Jaya Durga for an entire year. Thank you for your generosity.
