Surendra is very happy and healthy boy
posted February 12, 2012

Surendra is seven years old, and a student in Sarada Vidyalayam, the free school run by Sankurathri Foundation. He is the youngest child of Jagannadha Rao, a farm laborer in the village Penumarthy of East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh. His father earns about $35 per month, whenever he finds work. Surendra has an elder sister, also studying in the same school, in Grade 4. The family income barely suffices to make ends meet.
Under such circumstances education is never a priority for them as they prefer to send the child to work so as to earn money to supplement the family income. But Surendra’s parents understand the value of education and have enrolled both their children into school. However, because of the family’s poverty, the children are undernourished and underweight. Despite the dire circumstances, Surendra is a very happy child and very popular among his classmates and teachers.
Your generous donations, Julie (x2), Thomas (x3), Kellyr, James, Lee, Michael (x2), and Mark, has made it possible for Sankurathri Foundation to provide a year of nutritious lunches comprising of rice, lentils, leafy vegetables and clarified butter to Surendra. He will also be given a glass of milk in the afternoon. With these two food supplements Surendra will become healthy and active. He will also be able to perform well in his studies.
Thank you, Craig, for donating a set of two school uniforms to Surendra. His parents struggle to meet ends meet, and for them, having two sets of new clothes is a big relief. Once the school year is through, they are sure to recycle the uniforms into his daily wear.
Your support, comes as a big relief to Surendra’s parents who can’t thank you enough, for this kind gesture.

Bhavyasri is assured of good nutrition for an entire year
posted January 31, 2012

Thank you for coming together to support Bhavyasri.
Siddamtapu Bhavyasri is a seven year old girl studying grade two at Sarada Vidyalayam, the school managed by Sankurathri Foundation. She is the older daughter of Apparao, who works as a janitor in the village of Thammavaram. On days when he can find work, Apparao earns about $3 per day, which is barely sufficient to meet the needs of his family.
In the normal course, a girl like Bhavyasri would have been put to work, so the money she earned could supplement the family income. However, because of the incentive of a wholesome mid-day meal, her parents send her to school. Your donations, Sawan, Francoise, Akhil, Carys, Zachary, Rebecca, Purna, dana, and Microsoft, will make it possible for Sankurathri Foundation to provide a well-balanced lunch, and a glass of milk to Bhavyasri everyday, thereby ensuring that she is no longer undernourished or underweight.
Bhavyasri’s family cannot afford to buy new clothes for their children, and it is your donation of a set of two school uniforms, Adam, which will allow her to come to school well dressed and with her head held high.
Thank you for your generosity.
