Tadipudi Siva Sai Vardhini, 4th, 10y, F
Dear Bellevue Rotary,

Ten years old Siva Sai Vardhini is studying in grade 4 in Sarada Vidyalayam, the free school run by Sankurathri Foundation in rural Andhra Pradesh. She is the second child of a potter, Venkata Ramana, who’s monthly income of $ 80 is barely enough to make ends meet.

Girls of Siva Sai Vardhini’s age and background are normally not encouraged to go to school, but her parents realize that education may be the only chance she has to escape the vicious cycle of poverty, and so they encourage her in every way they can. However, because of poverty and ignorance, Siva Sai Vardhini does not get a balanced diet at home, and is undernourished. This results in her not being able to concentrate in class, and falling prey to frequent illnesses.

Your donation, Bellevue Rotary Foundation would ensure that Siva Sai Vardhini will be provided with a wholesome and nutritious lunch at school every day. The food would be cooked with iodized salt, and will give her sufficient nutrients for the entire day. She will also get a glass of milk in the evening.

Ballamma is happy again

Natata, Ballamma, 57
Dear Sarah,

Natata Ballamma is a 57 year old lady who lives with her husband and her daughter in the village of Viravada in coastal Andhra Pradesh. Her husband works as a farm laborer and he earns about $3 a day. Ballamma developed cataracts in both eyes, and made it nearly impossible for her to manage her own needs. She found herself becoming dependent on her husband and daughter, and was depressed because she could not perform her normal chores.

Ballamma’s cataracts were discovered during an eye camp conducted by Sankurathri Foundation in her village. Since her financial condition does not permit Ballamma to get her eyes operated upon, your donation, Sarah, was used to fund an intraocular cataract surgery for her. In addition to the cost of the surgery and the post operative medicines, your donation also paid for transportation to and from the hospital, food and accommodation, and will pay for two post operative check ups.

Thank you Sarah for your help. Ballamma now perform her own chores, and is happy again.

Jyoshna can now attend another year of school

Chintapalli Jyoshna, 4th, 10y, F
Dear Bellevue Rotary,

Nine year old Chillipalli Jyoshna is the second child of Lingaiah, a factory worker. Though her father earns enough to keep her family out of poverty, they do not earn enough to afford to send Jyoshna to school. That coupled with the fact that families do not normally educate their girl children means she would have remained illiterate had she not been given admission in Sarada Vidyalayam, the school run by Sankurathri Foundation. She studies in grade 4 and is a dedicated student.

Your donation of a year of tuition, Bellevue Rotary Foundation, will ensure that Jyoshna remains in school for at least another year. Every year that a girl remains in school exponentially increases her chances of a better future.

Thank you for your donation.

Koppisetty Umamaheswari, 7, 2nd
Dear Bellevue Rotary,

Koppisetti Umamaheswari is the second child of a Agricultural labor from village Penumarthy. Her father, Satyanarayana is a daily laborer and earns $ 4 a day when he find the work. With that money he has to support a family of four people including his two children, which is barely enough to meet their basic necessities.

Families such as Umamaheswari’s do not believe in education, much less education for the girl child, so a girl like her would normally not have been going to school at all. Umamaheswari is, however, enrolled in Grade 2 at Sarada Vidyalayam, the school run by Sankurathri Foundation. Your donation, Bellevue Rotary Foundation, will ensure that her tuition is paid for an entire year, and she doesn’t have to worry about having to drop out of school.
