Sixty year old Appayamma lives in the village of Pithapuram with her husband, Nageswararao. He is a farm laborer who earns approximately $ 60 per month. Appayamma have has two sons, one of whom is married and lives with his own family.  Appayamma’s eyesight has been going down for over a year, and after a routine eye-test, it was diagnosed that she needed corrective glasses.

Suryakantham can continue living with dignity in her old age

Laka Surya Kantham, 70
Dear Bri,

Laka Suryakantham is a 70 years old widow living in the village Pithapuram. Her husband, Simhachalam, died 10 years ago. She has two sons and four daughters who are married and living with their families. Suryakantham works as a daily laborer and makes about $ 1.5 a day, which is barely sufficient to meet her needs.

Suryakantam was operated for cataracts at the eye-hospital run by Sankurathri Foundation, but post surgery, she was not able to afford corrective glasses. Your donation, Bri, enabled Sankurathri Foundation to provide her with a pair of free glasses.

Lakshmi Tulasamma can see better and happy because of your kind donation

Dear Bri,

Kanchi Lakshmi Tulasamma is 87 years. She is a widow, who lives with her son and his family in the village of Pithapuram in Andhra Pradesh. Depsite her advanced age, upto last year, she used to not only do her own chores at home, she would help her daughter-in-law with domestic work. But slowly her vision started dropping, and she found it difficult to manage at home.

Tulasamma attended a free eye screening camp in Pithapuram and after a thorough eye examination it was found that she has cataracts in both eyes. Sankurathri Foundation performed a cataract surgery on both eyes, but even after the surgery she needed corrective glasses, which she could not afford.

Vanum Arjunamma is a 55 year old, who lives with her husband, Rajulu, in Pithapuram village. She has one son and two daughters, all of whom are married and live with their own families. Arjunamma does not go out to work, but she manages all the chores at home, and helps her husband where she can. Over the last year, however, she noticed that her vision has been dropping, and this depressed her.

After a eye examination it was found that Arjunamma needs corrective glasses, which she cannot afford since there is little spare money in the household. Your donation, Bri, enabled Sankurathri Foundation to give a pair of corrective glasses to Arjunamma for free.

Kabireddy Satyavathi is a 60 year old widow living in the village Pithapuram. Her husband died 3 years back, and she lives alone. Since she doesn’t have a steady income, life is tough for her, but she manages to get by somehow. Over the last five months, however, she has found her vision dropping, and has been struggling even to perform basic chores at home.

After a eye examination, it was found that she needed corrective glasses, but she could not afford to pay for a pair of glasses. Your donation, Bri, made it possible for Sankurathri Foundation to give a free pair of glasses to Satyavathi.

Suravarapu Ratnam is a 70 year old widow living in the village Mallam in coastal Andhra Pradesh. Her husband, Suryarao, died 6 years back. She has four daughters and one son. She is currently living with her daughter and helps to her with her chores. But for the last few months her vision has dropped and she hasn’t been able to help her daughter at home.

At that time she came to the eye hospital run by Sankurathri Foundation for an eye check-up. She needed corrective glasses, but since she did not have any money of her own, she could not afford to buy them. On a full stomach, Durga Bhavani can study well

Ten year old Durga Bhavani, is the oldest of two children. Her father, Rambabu, works as a kitchen helper and barely earns enough to support the needs of his two children and wife. The family lives in thevillageofPenumarthi, in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Durga Bhavani is studying in grade 4 in Sarada Vidyalayam and is a very chirpy and bright student. Like most children in rural areas, Durga Bhavani was also malnourished and survived for days on end on an empty stomach. With their father being a poor kitchen helper, Sankurathri Foundation provides free education to Durga Bhavani and her brother.

Your generous donations, Ravi, Nyree, Matthew, Denise, Craig, Lesley (x3), William, George and Greg and Monica (x2), have made it possible for Sankurathri Foundation to provide free school lunches and a  mid-morning glass of milk to Durga Bhavani for an entire year. She will be able to perform well in her studies and will also become active.

This girl is Bathina Sirisha. She is fourteen years old and is studying grade 8 inSarada Vidyalayam, the school run by Sankurathri Foundation. She is the second child of Venkatarao, who works as a farm laborer in the village Kothuru, and earns about $ 4 per day. Sirisha  has an younger brother who is also studying grade 6 in the same school.

In families such as Sirisha’s education is never a priority, and children drop out of school because of financial constraints. Sixty two year old Sambari Veerajamma who lives in the village of U.Kothapalli in coastal Andhra Pradesh. She has a son and a daughter, both of whom are married and live with their own families. Both Veerajamma and her husband work as daily laborer in the fields and earn about $ 2 per day. Veerajamma has learnt to run her household on that small sum of money. However, for the last few months, her vision has been going down, because of which she could not find work.

She had a free eye check up conducted at the hospital run by Sankurathri Foundation, where it was found that she needed corrective glasses. Since she could not afford to purchase a pair of glasses, your donation ensured that Veerajamma was given a free pair of eye glasses.

Varalakshmi is happy because she can now see well

Suravarapu Varalakshmi is 65 years old and lives in the village Pithapuram. Her husband, Narasimharaju, is an electrician. She has three sons and one daughter all of whom are married and living with their families. Varalakshmi managed her own chores at home and also helps her husband when she can. But for the last few months, she has been depressed as she noticed defective vision in her both eyes and she could not manage her own chores at home.

Sankurathri Foundation conducted a free eye-test on Varalakshmi and prescribed corrective glasses for her. Since she cannot afford to purchase glasses, your donation, Sivakumar, enabled Sankurathri Foundation to give a free pair of glasses to her.
