Vaum Lavanya is six years old, studying grade one is the youngest child of Veerababu, who is a farm laborer from the village Thammavaram which is located in the outskirts of Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, India. Veerababu is a mason works inKakinadawhich is about 10 kilometers from his village. He earns about $4 per day, when he can find the work only. Because of his poor economic background his children need support for proper education and development. His another child is older than Lavanya and also studying Grade 3 in Sarada Vidyalayam, the school managed by Sankurathri Foundation.

 

Under such circumstances education is never a priority for them and if they send the child to work she can make some money to supplement the family income. In this manner many boys and girls in the rural areas are becoming child laborers and supporting their families.

 

Thus there are many children in the rural areas who are drop outs of education because of their parents’ economic conditions. Sarada Vidyalayam is helping such children to complete their education without any financial burden to their parents. The school provides not only free education. The school maintains a very strict curriculum and provides quality education and imparts good discipline and values to groom them as good citizens. With your assistance we can provide a set of two uniforms to Lavanya.

Tatarao can see better now

Sixty-eight year old Pattam Tatarao is a farm laborer living in the village Tallarevu, Andhra Pradesh. He has two sons and one daughter who are married and living with their families. Tatarao and his wife are living below poverty line because his monthly earning is only $ 50.

Suddenly he lost his vision. As he was blind in both the eyes due to cataracts he found it was difficult for him to manage his own needs and go to work. When he attended the free eye screening camp at Sankurathri Foundation, his cataracts were diagnosed. Your donation made it possible to perform a free cataract operation on Tatarao.

He can see better now, and is looking forward to getting back to work soon.

Sixty five years old Shaik Vollijon is a resident of Rama Krishnaraopeta, Kakinada in coastal Andhra Pradesh. She lives with her husband Nana Saheb who is working as a farm laborer. Her husband earns $ 3 a day when he is able to find work. She has four daughter and four sons who are married and living with their families.

Shaik Vollijon developed cataracts in both eyes and was operated upon by Sankurarthri Foundation. However, she could not afford a pair of corrective glasses either. Thanks to your generosity, she has now been gifted with a pair of glasses, and her vision has been restored.

Jeeri Adinarayana is a 55 year old farm laborer who lives in the village of Rama Krishna Rao Peta. He came to our eye hospital with a complaint of headache and poor vision. After complete eye examination it was established that he needs spectacles to correct his poor vision.  Because of his strain he was getting frequently headaches. In order to make him healthier he needs spectacles. When the prescription was given to him he expressed his inability to purchase spectacles. Seelamanthula Jaya Durga is eight years old and studies in grade 3 at Sarada Vidyalayam, the free school run by Sankurathri Foundation in Andhra Pradesh. She is the elder daughter of Sathibabu, who is a Ice Cream vendor in the village Thammavaram which is located in the outskirts of Kakinada,Andhra Pradesh,India. Sathibabu earns about a profit of $3 per day, when he can sell the Ice Cream only. Because of his poor economic background his children need support for proper education and development. Sathibabu has two other elder boys to take care at home.

Under such circumstances education is never a priority for them and if they send the child to work she can make some money to supplement the family income. In this manner many boys and girls in the rural areas are becoming child laborers and supporting their families.

Most of the rural children are undernourished and underweight. As they don’t eat nutritious meals the school provides lunch and milk for these children. With these supplement these children look healthy and happy. Despite her background at home Jaya Durga is a happy Child and she participants in all the activities at school.

Ashok Kumar is studying Grade 1 in Sarada Vidyalayam, the school run by Sankurathri Foundation.  Sathibabu struggles to support his wife and one other girl child with his earnings.

One of her elder sister is illiterate and works as a daily laborer. Her other elder sister is studying grade 7 at Sarada Vidyalayam. Her father is Bhadram who earns about $40 to support the whole family.

Seethamma is a resident of Pithapuram, and she works as a daily laborer earing about $ 25 per month. Her husband, Jogiraju, was a carpenter but since last three years he is unable to work because of his stroke. Ever since the time Seethamma has been working as a daily laborer and looking after her husband. Even though the couple has one son and one daughter they do not want to depend on their children. As her vision has been decreasing slowly for the last three months she was worried and came for eye checkup. When we told her that she needed spectacles she was very happy but at the same time she didn’t have any money to pay. After hearing her sad story we have given her spectacles with your donation.

Yellayya’s wife died fifteen years ago and since then he has been living with his eldest son in the village of Recharlapeta. He also has one more son and two daughters. He was a daily laborer earning about $ 30 per month, but ever since he moved to his son’s place Yellayya hasn’t been working, but he helps at home by doing some odd jobs. How ever, since last one year he couldn’t see well because of his cataracts in both eyes. When he attended our eye camp we have performed cataract surgeries free of cost to him because of his poor conditions. After the cataract surgery he also needed spectacles and we have provided them free of cost to him because of your donation.

Nagaraju can be able to see better because of your donation

Cataract blindness is very common among poor people living in rural areas. There are no ophthalmologists in the rural areas and because of this reason coupled with poverty several thousands of poor people are remaining blind because of un operated cataracts. To help such people to become active people in the society we have designed community outreach program where we take the eye care to the door steps of the needy and poor in rural and remote areas.

Under this program our medical team visits a place and conducts free eye examinations to all the people attend those screening camps. All minor ailments are provided with treatment there at the camp site. If anyone requires cataract surgery we advise them and if they are willing we perform all the preoperative testing to verify their suitability for cataract surgery. If they are suitable we advise them to opt for cataract surgery and if the patient is willing we provide the transportation to them the same day to come to base hospital for surgery. At the base hospital we provide all the preoperative testing, food, accommodation, medicines during surgery, Intraocular lens, post operative medications and transportation back to their village free of cost to the patient. In addition, we also provide transportation to the two postoperative visits to all the patients.

Kesanakurthy Nagaraju 65 years old living with her husband Apparao in the village Jagannadhapuram. As she was blind in both the eyes due to cataracts she found it was difficult for her to manage her own needs.  Under such conditions she became a burden to her husband and very depressed. Her husband is a farm laborer and couldn’t afford to pay for her cataract surgery. When she attended our free eye screening camp we have identified her and brought her to our hospital for Cataract operations. As she is a poor woman we have performed free Cataract operations for her in both eyes because of your donation.
