Nagalakshmi can grow up healthy and happy

Koppisetti Naga Lakshmi
Dear Subhash, Jena, Priya, John, Julian, and Sarah,

Nine year old Koppisetty Nagalakshmi, is a student of Grade 3 at Sarada Vidyalayam, the free school run by Sankurathri Foundation in rural Andhra Pradesh. She lives with her family of  seven members.  Her father is a daily laborer in construction sites and earns about 40$ a month, barely enough to make ends meet. Her mother is a housewife. She has four siblings.

Under such circumstances education is never a priority for them and if they send the child to work he can make some money to supplement the family income. In this manner many girls in the rural areas are becoming child laborers and supporting their families.

In fact, one of Nagalakshmi’s elder sisters is illiterate and works as a daily laborer. Her other elder sister is studying in Grade 7 in the same school as Nagalakshmi.

Nagalakshmi is undernourished because her parents cannot afford to give her a balanced diet at home. Due to this, she finds it difficult to concentrate in class, and often has to miss school because of falling prey to illnesses. With your support, Subhash (x2), Jena  (x2), Priya, John, Julian, and Sarah  (x5), the Sankurathri Foundation will provide a wholesome and nutritious lunch to Nagalakshmi every day. The food would be cooked with iodized salt, and will give her sufficient nutrients for the entire day. She will also get a glass of milk in the evening.

Thank you, Subhash, Jena, Priya, John, Julian, and Sarah, for coming together to ensure that Nagalakshmi is healthy and happy, and can concentrate on her studies.
